Uniquely Ugly 007 - Hedenbergite
This unique piece was the inspiration for the "Uniquely Ugly" collection name! It is from Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Inner Mongolia, China. The Hedenbergite is well hidden except in the top and bottom, by what is probably Calcite of some kind which really delineates the formation of all of the crystals growing up the sides of this piece. There is very small amount of Ilvaite. But what is most interesting is there is the apparent fissure in the center. That crack does not go all the way through or around the piece which could indicate it was the result of volcanic damage and subsequent healing. This is a most unique piece and rare in formation.
