Agate is the name given to many forms of Chalcedony that occurs in bands of colors.  It comes in a wide variety of colors and textures.  Agate is formed by filling a cavity in a host rock and is often found as a round nodule with concentric bands like rings of a tree trunk.  In ancient times, Agate was valued as a talisman or amulet used for quenching thirst and to protect from fevers.  Ancient Persians used it to divert storms.  Agate bowls were highly prized and Mithradates, King of Pontus had over 3,000 bowls and Agate bowl collecting was common with European royalty.

Healing

Agate enhances one’s perceptiveness and stimulates analytical capacity and provides balance between physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual states.  Agate also alleviates hostilities and promotes goodwill.  It also helps show the truth and allows acceptance of the circumstances that arise and is a powerful emotional healer.  It also improves memory and concentration, increases stamina and encourages honesty.  Agate helps prevent insomnia and ensure pleasant dreams and protects one against dangers.  It can calm, improve perception, concentration and help one to develop analytical talents.

Healing:  Agates are one of the oldest good-luck and healing stones.  It enables the wearer to choose between true friends and false ones.  It is said to protect children from falls and to bring prosperity.  It helps treat disorders of the pancreas and improves circulation.  It is a balancing and cleansing stone that bridges the gap between head and heart.
