Amethyst 

Chakra- All with focus on 6th (Third Eye) 7th (Crown), Etheric (8th and beyond); Element-Water; Hardness-7; Crystal Structure-trigonal. 

Amethyst is from the Greek word meaning “non-intoxicating” or “sober”.  It has a very long history and was used by many cultures in association with religious practices.  For example, in Egypt it was placed on the body of the deceased.  The Chaldean Magi believed Amethyst brought success and good luck.  It was also said that it granted an understanding of hidden knowledge.  In China, pieces of Amethyst were rented to people involved in lawsuits to help promote a positive outcome.

Amethyst ranges in color from pale lilac to deep purple.  The more pale color is called “Rose de France” and can be seen in Victorian jewelry.  The dep colors are the most valuable.  It is mined in Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, and Argentina.  Newer finds are in Namibia and Kenya and other African countries.

Amethyst has a soothing and relaxing effect and promotes healthy sleep habits.  It also promotes shrewdness in business matters and helps control negative thoughts.  Amethyst has transmutation energy and helps to open gateways into transforming spiritual experiences and can protect from black magic.  It is also known as a “change” stone and can bring about a change in life and consciousness.  It also grounds to help assist in psychic openings.

Healing

 Clusters of amethyst are more powerful than a single crystal.  Amethyst can cleanse other stones.  It can alleviate migraines and headaches caused by nerves will subside when an amethyst cross sections or geode is placed in a room.  It also helps improve concentration and calms mental disorders, purifies the blood and strengthens the immune system.  Amethyst balances and helps head throughout all of the chakras.  It also enhances the personality and charisma.

Amethyst works with the right brain and cuts through illusion and helps to develop psychic ability.  It strengthens intuition, inspiration, healing and channeling and raises thoughts and aspirations to a higher spiritual level.

If placed on the 7th (Crown Chakra) during meditation, amethyst increases concentration and confidences in life.  It has many of the same qualities as clear quartz and can increase other stones’ effectiveness.  It is a good stone to keep in the pocket and touch during the day as it has uplifting energy.  It is also very good to wear against your skin on a necklace.  It also helps insomnia if placed under the pillow at night.
